Welcome to DIRECTIONS. We are glad you are here. Established in 1974, DIRECTIONS is an organization devoted to Teaching, Research and Service. We provide a number of educational tools for managers interested in a rewarding career in the hospitality industry. In addition, we are able to provide hospitality career direction to college and high school students. Our profiles and surveys give managers and students valuable insight into the world of work. Teaching focuses on a motivational theory developed over years of leadership and educational experience. The essence of the approach is that relevant leadership behavior is learned and behavior that is rewarded is repeated. Everyone who wants to accomplish goals with other people must have a systematic approach to understanding the reality of their environment. The book: REALITY CHECK FOR LEADERS: Is one in a series of books and articles that will enhance the understanding of behavior in all aspects of life and is an excellent source for information on leadership and management. Research focuses on understanding why people behave the way they do. The SCHILAGI INTERESTS AND SKILLS PROFILE [SISP] is one in a series of surveys and research instruments that will provide a better understanding of why there is often a difference between expected behavior and real behavior. The SCHILAGI ORGANIZATION SURVEY [SOS] is in the development stage and beta testing will begin in early 2008. Service centers on consulting with educational institutions at both the High School and College level. The SISP provides hospitality students with direction in their educational pursuits. Students who have an opportunity to compare their perceived interests and skills with those of working managers are more inclined to focus on areas of study that will maximize their results in the industry.
